Market Research on Linkedin

Linkedin by Coletivo Mambembe, on Flickr As someone who spends a significant amount of time on Linkedin, I understand the value of a quality discussion. On Linkedin, these discussions are often hosted in groups. There is a plethora of Linkedin groups around Market Research but don’t be mistaken, they’re not all equal. Here’s my attempt at listing the top 5 Market Research Groups on Linkedin (in order of value). Please leave a comment below if you think I left out a group or if you disagree with the order.

NGMR Next Gen Market Research (NGMR)

Group Profile

The market has changed, the customers have changed, why should consumer insight be the same? Marketing Research/Consumer Insights have changed little since the mid 90’s and still offer only 1.0 Insights. This is an invitation only group for Analytics Professionals with 7+ y/exp who want more than traditional MR. View group

PERSONAL REVIEW

Tom Anderson does a great job at cyphering through all the garbage and has created a community of quality discussions around research. While the discussions that often dominate the conversations are started by Anderson himself, he still does an excellent job at challenging the research community to improve.

QuirksThe Marketing Research & Insights Group

Group Profile

The Marketing Research & Insights Group on Linkedin is committed to maintaining an open forum for research professionals to socialize, share ideas and perspectives, openly debate issues facing the research industry, learn industry best practices, find job opportunities and of course network with your fellow colleagues. The group is open to all members of the market research community whether or not they are members or subscribers to Quirk’s Website and magazine. View group

PERSONAL REVIEW

Steve Quirk’s group is also another example of group monitoring done right. You rarely come across a discussion not worth your time. In contrast to other Market Research groups, this group features more discussion on the marketing side of research. Also, if you have something valuable to share, expect to receive a ton of engagement. This group is very active.

Consumer InsightsConsumer Insights Interest Group

Group Profile

The Consumer Insights Interest Group aims to connect professionals working with Consumer Insights. We encourage members to share experiences and best-practices with regards to understanding, uncovering, articulating and validating Consumer Insights and to learn from each other. View group

PERSONAL REVIEW

This group takes a deep dive into the research done around consumer decision making. If you enjoy a good psychological discussion around consumer behavior rather than building a regression model, this is the group for you.

MRAMarketing Research Association

Group Profile

Founded in 1957, the Marketing Research Association is the leading and largest association of the survey, opinion and marketing research profession, which delivers insights and intelligence to guide the decisions of companies providing products and services to consumers and businesses. MRA is based in Washington, DC. View group

PERSONAL REVIEW

A great resource for entry to mid-level researchers. The discussion topics are often “high-level” conversations about the future of research and best applications. This group does at great job at providing valuable information without the “what’s in it for me” type of discussions that rid most Linkedin Groups.

Insights Innovation ForumInsight Innovation Forum – Market Research Group

Group Profile

The Insight Innovation Forum is an actively managed group that enables learning and open discussion of all aspects of market research & insight innovation and of the challenges faced by the market research industry today. Members from both sides of the table share their expertise and offer unique perspectives on a wide variety of issues, both strategic and tactical. View group

PERSONAL REVIEW

A highly monitored (no spam) group that focuses on the real-life applications of research. The top discussions are often dominated by Market Research guru, Leonard Murphy (which is fine by me – I’m a fan). If you’re looking for a group that packs a punch, check this group out.
